I really enjoying finding old jewelry boxes at garage & estate sales and bringing them back to life with a little chalk paint & distressing. As a rule, I never pay more than $3-$4 and have had success selling them for $15-$18 depending on size. I don't buy them if they need a lot of repair or if the interior fabric, often a velvet, is damaged - there are too many decent ones at garage sales to waste time repairing a broken one. Painting the drawers can be tedious, but they really don't take long. Then I use the micro-attachment for my vacuum cleaner hose to bring the lining back to life.
